Originally from a small community in west Tennessee named Counce, near Pickwick Lake, Crystal worked in the cardiac rehab ICU of Vanderbilt for seven years before returning to school to become a physician assistant.
“Daily, you would see patients at the lowest point in their lives. In seeing this, I initially wanted to be in cardiology given my background,” she said. “PA school made me realize the importance of preventative medicine which helps patients take control of their health before disease complications. It’s all about giving patients a better quality of life; preventative care plays a major role in that.”
As a huge sports fan, Crystal grew up playing basketball, and she enjoys watching games. It’s not surprising that March is her favorite time of year! Outside the office, she enjoys trips to the beach with her family, gardening, cooking and traveling.
Crystal confesses that she can’t picture herself in any other career outside of medicine.
“Seeing patients take initiative in their own health is incredibly rewarding. Health is an investment, a lot of times you get what you put into it,” she said. “Hard work pays off, and I love celebrating with my patients when they see their accomplishments!”
